Sommers Development Group acquired historic Union Station in 1984 for the purpose of historic redevelopment/revitalization. Union Station was built and dedicated in 1927 and was one of the most advanced and modern train stations at the time. It was set to be demolished and SDG, through strategic collaboration and negotiations, was able to purchase the historic site and avoid it being demolished.
SDG was able to utilize and negotiate historic tax credits involving the re-development of the historic site. Union State was developed and restored into over 95,000 square feet of productive commercial/office/retail space.

We also implemented site management plans for continued productive use of the properties.
Sommers Development Group coordinated with the US Army Corps and the Ohio EPA to establish a wetland mitigation site in Mantua, OH. The wetland mitigation site created new wetlands for wetland “credits” to replace wetland and watersheds that were disturbed on various construction and development sites. After completion, the property was donated to a local land conservancy entity.
Sommers Development Group established a process for the utilization and recycling of various valuable building materials. The various demolition/revitalization/re-development projects would produce a significant quantity of valuable building materials that would otherwise be inefficiently disposed of. BB was established for the productive re-use and recycling of various valuable building materials. This translated into the reduction of building waste, and future cost savings on new projects/developments.
